Our team is highly experienced at administering a variety of injectables, including Botox® and the most popular types of dermal fillers. Injectables are a great way to achieve noticeable results without the need for invasive surgery. Botox® and most dermal fillers can be administered during your lunch break and no downtime is needed afterward. With remarkable results and no downtime, it’s hardly a surprise that injectables are one of our most requested treatments!

Neurotoxins – Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin®

Neurotoxins are a unique type of injectable treatment that work by immobilizing overactive facial muscles, thereby reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. While Botox® is the most familiar brand name, Dysport® and Xeomin® also offer outstanding results. Our nurse will help you determine which neurotoxin is right for you during your initial consultation.

What is Botox®?

Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable cosmetic treatment that can gently reduce the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. Since its introduction over three decades ago, Botox® has become America’s number one aesthetic procedure. Fast, convenient, and pain-free, Botox® delivers visible results without the need for surgery or downtime.

How do neurotoxins work?

When we smile or scrunch our foreheads, our facial muscles contract, moving our elastic skin with them. Over time, our skin loses its elasticity and expression lines become etched in place. Botox®, Dysport®, and Xeomin® are a type of drug known as neuromodulators, a substance that inhibits the transmission of the chemical that signals facial muscle movement. The active agent in these neuromodulators (botulinum toxin) causes the facial muscles to temporarily relax, therefore minimizing expression lines. Treatments are efficient and can be done in a brief office visit and require no downtime.

Botox® for treating the “11” between brows

The two vertical lines between the brows, known as the “11”, are the result of furrowing the brows. The “11” can contribute to an annoyed or angry expression–even if you are relaxed and content. BOTOX® is widely used to smooth out these wrinkles, softening the overall appearance.

What other areas of the face do Botox® and Dysport® treat?

Although Botox® is most commonly used to treat horizontal forehead lines and the “11”, the injectable treatment can diminish wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet), nose (bunny lines), and mouth (smile lines). It can also be used to minimize neck wrinkles (platysmal bands). Botox® is not only excellent for making prominent lines less visible, but it can also help slow the formation of new lines.

Do Botox® injections hurt?

Neuromodulator treatments are well-tolerated and most patients do not experience any more discomfort than the minor prick of a needle. After receiving injections, it takes about 5-7 days for results to show. Patients typically begin to see full results within two weeks. Botox® treatments are not permanent but can last for 4-8 months, depending on the individual patient and the condition of the skin. To get the most out of treatments, most patients opt for occasional touch-ups.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are used to erase fine lines and wrinkles and augment facial features, such as the cheeks and lips. The products work by increasing volume beneath the skin. This increased volume can smooth out wrinkles or be used to treat age-related volume loss. Dermal fillers are also used to shape, contour and enhance the shape of the lips or cheeks.

What types of dermal fillers are used?

At Cross Medical Group, we offer a comprehensive range of dermal fillers, each designed to treat a unique concern. The type of filler that is right for you will depend on several factors including your cosmetic goals, how long you want the results to last, and how you respond to an allergy test (necessary for certain fillers).

Your Injectable Treatment with Nurse Maria Schafer, Director of Injectable Medicine at Cross Medical Group

Although injectable treatments are efficient and the most frequently performed cosmetic procedure, injections should only be done by an experienced professional. For instance, if too much BOTOX® is injected, it can lead to an artificial “frozen look”, where the patient lacks the ability to achieve a natural expression. In addition, be sure that you are receiving FDA-approved BOTOX®. Fake neurotoxins and substitutes have made their way into clinics in the U.S., increasing the risk for undesirable side effects.

An expert in non-invasive injectable treatments Nurse Schafer takes care to administer the right amount of relaxant to achieve natural-looking results. Known for achieving consistent results, she has helped her patients in the Philadelphia area restore a youthful appearance–and confidence. If you are interested in seeing if Botox® or dermal fillers can help you refresh your appearance, contact Nurse Schafer at Cross Medical Group to schedule your consultation.
